So you’ve never danced a step in your life? But you secretly dance in front of the bathroom mirror and watch every season of Dancing with the Stars…? How good was Ricki-Lee?! ←
And now you need to get yourself to a dance class. Well, there’s good news because the first class you attend with FIT2MOVE is FREE, and the hardest part is walking in. Once you’re in the dance studio, we will take care of the rest. All it takes is one dance class and then you’re hooked. Soon enough you’ll be watching dance clips on YouTube during your lunch break and you won’t just dance in your bathroom anymore!
Two Left Feet? Lucky we sell the right one!
A beginner class is exactly what it sounds like, we teach you the very basics – dance hold, steps and music. There is no need to bring a partner, just your good self and a sense of fun. Our aim in the beginner class is to give you a taste of every dance over an 8 week course. This includes: Waltz, Jive, Cha Cha, Tango, Quickstep, Rumba, Foxtrot, Samba and Salsa, which means you’ll now be more than happy to dance with the old lady who works in accounts at your next work Xmas party!
Dancing like Fred and Ginger?
Once you feel comfortable and confident with the basics in the beginner class, its time for a challenge! When you are ready varies for everyone. Some people will only do the beginner course once and feel like Fred Astaire and or Ginger Rogers, others may have do it a couple of times to make sure they really have the basics under their belt.
The next step (pun intended) is to move on to the intermediate class. This dance class is more focused towards technique and styling as well as moving up a (belt) notch in choreography. We start to introduce spins, shimmies and if you’re feeling brave maybe even a dip!
Nobody puts baby in the Corner!
So you’ve reached the stage where you imagine yourself doing the Dirty Dancing lift and you won’t rest until you’ve nailed it! It’s probably time to move into the advanced class. Here we focus on teaching you detailed technique, high level step patterns and differences in musical accents and timing. All of these aspects will boost your dancing and you’ll notice that you can really start to develop your dancing in a whole new way.
At FIT2MOVE we are so good at sharing our love of dance, and the main reason is because we have all been doing it our whole lives… since we were kids. So when it comes to Kids Dance Classes we have developed a class structure from our own experience. Not only is dance great for kids to build confidence, pump up their self-esteem and improve co-ordination it also teaches them about respect for others, self-pride and how to communicate.
As all our teachers are from high professional dance performance backgrounds (stage, tv, competition) we know that, for us, a wide range of dance styles have been so beneficial to not only the success of our sparkly careers but also for improving the speed and accuracy of learning and development. So we really encourage our students to be exposed to as many styles of dance as possible. Our class structure is based on various styles of Ballroom, Latin American, Hip Hop and Street incorporating partnered and solo work, step patterns, styling and characterisation as well as understanding of musical timing.
Our classes run in line with school terms and are paid in advance. But to make sure your little dancer loves the class before committing to a full term we offer their first class FREE!
The focus is on you!
A private lesson in the dance world is a lesson with a professional teacher, and it can be either on your own or with a partner (up to four people). It doesn’t mean that you are necessarily the only lesson in the studio, but all of your teacher’s expertise is focused just on you! A private dance lesson is a great way to accelerate your learning and gain loads of knowledge, fitness and improvement. Each session is 45 minutes, and as for what dance you want to learn or work on well, that’s absolutely up to you!
Our medal system is kind of like the belt system used in Karate, except you don’t get a coloured belt at the end – you get a medal. We also use a colour system to distinguish levels of achievement, but of course it’s a little more glamorous so we use Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each medal will consist of various dances within each category and then a routine suitable for demonstrating skill and competency. To achieve the medal you perform a practical exam with your teacher as your partner, and the examiner (someone who is impartial, from another studio) will give you feedback and encouraging comments in a written report. Then you will be awarded the medal and you can carry it around with you the rest of the week to show it off to everyone you know!
Medals are a great way to learn step patterns and apply technique in your dancing because there is a goal to reach for. Both private lessons and Medal Classes are available (even both can be a good idea).
To a competitive dancer the movie/musical ‘Strictly Ballroom’ is funny… because it’s true. Well, there are elements of truth, (like the personalities and importance of colour coordination) but it is unlikely there would be an incident where the music is cut off during the Paso Doble at the Pan Pacific Grand Prix… whoops, spoiler alert!
Competitive dancing has definitely moved on since the days of a jewelled hair-sprayed fringe but the one thing that will never change is that competitions are for everyone – all skill levels and all ages. Starting with Juvenile U/11 and going all the way through to Masters over/60 you can participate in DSA (governing body) events where you are graded and get to wear all the sparkly outfits, or there’s the option of recreational events. These are mainly targeted at beginner dancers, and you only wear street clothes (basically anything you can buy in a shop that is not sparkly). In Australia there are 3 styles: Latin, Ballroom and New Vogue and competitions are available in each style at every event, and in Melbourne there are so many competitions available you could be collecting trophies almost every weekend! You don’t even have to have a full time partner; there are individual events where anyone from within your studio can partner, or a Pro Am category where you dance with a Professional (your teacher). There are a few guidelines on costuming and choreography but your teacher will always be able to advise you on those. Other than that it’s a fantastic opportunity to be creative, expressive and brave! You could have only a few weeks experience or it could be something you’ve been doing your whole life! It’s social, fun and most of the time very glamorous.
Flash Mobs and Dancing With The Stars.
Have you always imagined a Kardashian-level party? Maybe you’ll hire an up-and-coming rap artist to perform their new single, or have a giant cake with metallic gold frosting and a mini top hat just for decoration? Better yet you could get all your mates together and have a choreographed dance break. Yes!
At FIT2MOVE we have a ton of experience with choreography and coordinating performances, from television to stage, major sporting events, the annual school production or down at the local bowls club. We have done it all! And we are always keen to help to make your (or Kris Jenner’s) vision a reality. Check out our recent show THE BEAT.

It’s the big day.
You’ve agonised over invitations, food, THE dress/suit/ring pillow and whether you should have the honeymoon in the Maldives or Echuca. It’s all very exciting but also a little bit stressful. When do you get to have any fun? Why not spend time with your fiancé and have some fun before a lifetime of family barbeques and joint health insurance premiums? How about a Bridal Waltz?
Your wedding dance is an important element of making your big day truly magical. The wedding dance itself can be as complicated or simple as you like and the song choice is completely yours. It doesn’t matter if it’s Michael Buble, Beyonce or Nirvana as long as you, and your better half, love it!
Choreography
We can choreograph a dance so good everyone will be wanting to see an encore or hoping the footage goes viral! Besides all that, the feedback we often receive is that the wedding dance lessons are the most enjoyable part of planning any wedding. We’d recommend the bridal package!

Some would argue the greatest moment in Liza Minnelli’s career was her appearance at Stanford and Anthony’s wedding in Sex and the City 2. I’m not sure if it was the decor of the room or the backing dancers but never has there been a better setting for a wedding dance.
A wedding dance is not only an opportunity to get the crowd on their feet after you’ve cut the cake, it also provides the first joint achievement as a married couple — an achievement that for the LGBT community is soon within their grasp. FIT2MOVE is now (and forever) offering same sex couples wedding dance packages.
We would love to create a ‘Liza with a Z’ scale production or if you’re looking for something more simple and intimate we can do that for you too. All you have to do is choose the song, any song, and we do the rest. For bookings please contact us via email, phone or carrier pigeon.
Dear Malcolm Turnbull,
I have a business idea that your government is currently prohibiting me from pursuing!
It’s in regards to the LGBT community and their rights to legalised marriage, and FIT2MOVE providing a wedding dance service to this demographic.
At present this business pursuit is on hold and, much like the rest of the country, I’m fearful that your plebiscite is merely a way to waste some time and appear as though you are being productive in bringing forth the wants and needs of the LGBT community, but in the end neglecting to achieve the desired result. We all know the outcome of the plebiscite holds no weight in making any changes to the current laws.
I’m confident you need no schooling in economics and small business tax thresholds and the benefits they deliver your federal budget. So for this reason I encourage you and your cabinet to be brave, be considerate and most of all be aware that this is a change that is long overdue!
I’m also willing to offer you and Lucy a private lesson voucher to the value of $100 with any of our highly qualified teachers, if you can move forward on this issue promptly.
Yours Sincerely,
FIT2MOVE and the entire Australian LGBT community
